Knights of St. Andrew
An elite unit of select Scottish Rite Masons dedicated to service, leadership, and the preservation of Masonic traditions.
About the Order
What is the Knights of St. Andrew?
The Knights of St. Andrew is made up of an elite unit of select Scottish Rite Masons. They exist as a service organization on behalf of all members of their Consistory, operating under the immediate supervision of the Secretary of their Scottish Rite Consistory.
Their flexibility and enthusiasm make the Knights of St. Andrew one of the Valley's most active and desirable organizations. It is an excellent way to nurture and develop future leaders as they learn their organizational and leadership skills, explore the inner structures of their Scottish Rite Centers, and thus gain a deeper admiration for the Order and Brethren who work in Freemasonry as a whole.
Membership is limited to 32nd Degree Masons only. All other members, regardless of their titles and rank, cannot hold the honor of membership in this select group without first being selected and approved by the members — and then, only as an Associate Member.
What We Do
Service & Commitment
Service to the Consistory
KSA members serve their Consistory by aiding Tylers, acting as greeters, providing escort services for dignitaries, and assisting with special events.
Degree Work
Knights assist in Scottish Rite degree work, helping present the Colors and ensuring the ceremonial traditions are upheld with dignity and precision.
Membership Development
Through the Squire's Coin tradition, each Knight selects and mentors a worthy Master Mason through the degrees, cultivating quality membership one brother at a time.
Civic Activities
Knights participate in parades, civic activities, and community events, representing the Scottish Rite with pride and visibility in the wider community.
Leadership Development
KSA is an excellent way to nurture and develop future leaders as they learn organizational skills and explore the inner structures of their Scottish Rite Centers.
Ceremony & Tradition
Identified by their distinctive regalia and Glengarry bonnets, the Knights often enter events accompanied by bagpipes and drums, embodying the spirit of Scottish tradition.
Tradition & Regalia
A Distinguished Identity
The Glengarry Bonnet
Many Chapters use the Glengarry Hat or Bonnet as their signature headwear. Carefully researched for authenticity, this 17th-century bonnet features three cock feathers protruding from its Bonnet Badge, replacing the conventional 32nd Degree black hat. A Plaid or Tartan representing the local Valley is worn diagonally on a cummerbund.
Formal Attire
An Officer's dinner jacket worn with tuxedo pants and a tux shirt and bow tie for formal occasions. Regular wear consists of a coat, open-collared shirt, and the bonnet.
Honors & Distinction
Members awarded KCCH receive a special past officer's bonnet badge with a red feather replacing the white one. Those who rise to the 33rd Degree are distinguished with a red, gold, and white feather in their bonnet.
A Noble Tradition
The Squire's Coin
Each charter member receives a “Squire's Coin.” During the year, each Knight selects a Master Mason whom he considers worthy of joining this elite group. He invites the candidate and his lady to attend dinners and events, and takes care to see him through the required degrees to be eligible for the unit.
The Knight has one year to accomplish this. He will retrieve the Squire's Coin only if the candidate fails to qualify for membership within that time. The Coin carries an engraved legend that makes one uneasy if lost — concentrating on mentoring just one member over 12 months makes Lodge attendance a priority.
The KEY to membership is made of semi-precious metal and will remain with the member at all times. A Knight may be fined if the key is lost or not on his person when called upon.
Membership Requirements
Membership is limited to 32nd Degree Freemasons only. Those interested should contact Brothers in the Valley of Santa Rosa to begin the process. The Knights of St. Andrew are selected and approved by the existing membership.
